I found some great accessories in town to go along with my friends dress. The look is vintage but with a little edge. There is enough going on around the neck so I thought bold pieces for her hands and arms would complete the look.

Assignment

!!!!
I received my first request looking for some fashion advice. A friend in Boston is going to a wedding in March. I like her dress choice - very romantic and vintage looking. We all have Spring Fever, but we must be realistic {how many St. Patrick's Day parades have you spent bundled in your Irish knit sweater???}. A lighter weight fabric would be pushing it, but the color gives a nod to Spring. It's a good transitional season selection. She needs some accessories to go with it.
I'm on it, Bridget. I'll be looking in town and on the web!!

Pasta Dinner Night {party decorating on a budget}

 First of all I apologize for the lack of post this week. A nasty cold {no "sick days" for mothers}, plus being the decorating coordinator for my kids' school Pasta Dinner Night fund raiser took up much of my energy. I want the best for my kids and their school {don't we all}, so I was up to the challenge of decorating Lake Avenue Elementary's cafeteria to accommodate 336 people for one of the schools biggest fund raisers of the year on a verrrry limited budget {YES I CAN}. Thanks to the many blogs I read, Martha Stewart.com, and some of our very generous local florist I was able to transform the cafeteria to a trattoria! Here is how I did it...

Craft Materials

{Our school is becoming more "green". In an attempt to stay with that theme I choose to stick with paper and recyclable items to decorate the tables with}

Table Scape

{the tables were covered in white paper -thanks to the art teacher, the runner is black and white wrapping paper, red paper place mats donated by Putnam Market, silverware donated by Allerdice rental, cups donated by Hannaford, the flowers that were donated by Dehns, Hidden Gardens and Price Chopper were placed in mason jars and soup cans tied with a zippy red ribbon, donated crayons from Lake Ave. parents were put on the table to keep our little "artist" busy while the food was being served}

Gingham Curtains

{my friend Carolyn took our tired curtains and made them into these cute cafe curtains with hardly any effort - a true genius! Some items from home polished off one of the window beds and made a nice focal point}

Table Scape

{ready to serve!}

Lake Ave Trattoria

Much appreciation to all our sponsors, parents, and Dr. Messier who made this night a true success!

Grazie!

Choose Red, Pink and Green this Valentine's Day ... {florist, eco-friendly}

heaven_scent_red__bouquet.jpg{photo courtesy of Heaven Scent Floral Art}

Why should red and pink have all the fun on Valentine's Day? This year let's have green join in on the fun! I met Jordan Baker from Heaven Scent Floral Design this past weekend at the Well Wed wedding show. I have no weddings to plan in the near future, but for my next dinner party or special event I will be sure to give her a call. She is originally from Australia and also spent some time in NYC - so you can be sure she knows her stuff {who doesn't love the Australians...?}! Heaven Scent is an eco-friendly florist with a studio {no store front} here in Saratoga. You can contact her at 518.577.1108 or you can check out her website heaavenscentfloralart.com. Give your Valentine a stylish, elegant and environmentally correct bouquet this year. The earth and your amour will thank you. And yes, guys, it will take more thought and time then a quick stop at Price Chopper or Stewarts on your way home on the 14th.... So call NOW! {got the hint, honey?}
